Town Creek Park is located on Gay Street between University and Samford. It consists mostly of walking
trails which are absolutely lovely. Along the trail you will walk over a board walk scented by wildflowers growing high on either side. The boardwalk has covered areas with benches to sit and
enjoy the shaded area. The trail then opens out onto a grassy area surrounding a small pond.
At this pond you will find a couple of ducks which will come close by looking for spare bread crumbs. There is also a bridge out to a pavilion that is set over the water. If you go out on this and look over the edge you will often see anxious turtles gathering in the water underneath.
If you happen to drop some bread crumbs in the water here, it is not unusual for more turtles to start coming from all sides until a group of twenty or more have gathered. Look a little closer and you just might spy the fish coming near the surface of the water trying to snare what morsels the turtles are to slow to eat.
Meanwhile the trail winds its way around the rest of the pond to eventually form a full circle. Along the way you will find a bench swing under a pergola and benches to rest. There are other alternative trails to take which are purely walking trails. If you bring your canine friend on a walk with you they have a water fountain that not only attends to your thirst, but your dog's as well with a low fountain for dogs located close to the parking lot. There is also a large grassy area near the parking lot which would be ideal for a good game of frisbee.
