Free Game of Bowling:
You can get a coupon for a free game of Bowling at Auburn Lanes if you stop by our local Chamber of Commerce on Glenn Ave (right by the Glenn Dean shopping center). Just walk in the front door and look to your left. There will be a plethora of informational packets about Auburn, and in the mix is a stack of what look like business cards which state, "Bowl 1 Game FREE, Compliments of Auburn Chamber of Commerce". You can take as many as you like and use one per person at the bowling lanes. You'll still have to pay for the shoe rental, and any additional games you want to play that day, but all in all, a very handy coupon.

Oil Change:
With the price of oil rising so much lately getting an oil change is quite expensive. To get a coupon to help reduce that cost you can go to Kroger on Dean road and buy a pack of gum (or whatever you like) and on the back of the receipt they print coupons and one of those coupons is for Jiffy Lube, Express Oil Change. The last one I received was for an oil change for $19.95. I frequently use Jiffy Lube and have always been pleased with the service these guys have provided. They are also very fast, and I can usually get in and out in about 15 mins.

Alternately, you can go online and print out a coupon for Big Ten Tires off of their website for an oil change for $18.99. I, however, have always had terrible experiences with Big Ten. They seem to do shoddy work and take hours to do it...but maybe you'll get lucky.

Free Calendar:
If you are looking for a free calendar just stop by the Public Library. They have the City of Auburn's Events Calendar free of charge waiting for you on the counter. These are nice calendars and as a bonus they already have many of the events going on in Auburn printed on them so you will know what is happening when.

Children's Outing:
Want to get your young children out of the house, but the weather isn't nice enough to be out at a park. There are several stores around town that provide amusement free of charge...assuming you can resist buying their wares of course.
  • Thomas the Train Engine Play TableBooks a Million - If you go into books a million and head back to the children's section you will see a great Thomas the Train Engine table which is set up for children to play on. They have all the trains and tracks right there easy to play with, and big cushy chairs for Mom or Dad to sit in and relax, perhaps with a good book, while the little ones play.

  • Hamster on a hamster wheelPetco - If your children like animals this is a great place to walk through. They have a wide assorment of animals including birds, fish, turtles, ferrets, hamsters, and rabbits. The only problem is that they are not allowed to touch any of them, so it is looking only. However, there is a petstore in town which has animals which you can pet...

  • Tiger Pets - Is located on Opelika Road near Gay Street and allows you to pet any of their furry critters. They typically have rabbits and guinea pigs in open-top cages and ferrets also at easy disposal. Just make sure your children know how to be gentle with these guys. Tiger Pets also has hamsters, cool reptiles and fish to be found.

  • Colonial Mall - Sometimes it is fun just to browse the mall. Although, this is the most dangerous outing if your children are in the habit of requesting things be bought for them, it is also the one which could take up the most time. There is a Toy Store in the mall which often has toys in front to play with and play on. There is also an area on the other side of the mall which has the little cars and train that children can ride up and down...though I never feed it quarters my children still love to get in the cars and pretend they are driving to some new place and there is a couch for Mom or Dad to sit on while you wait for them to tire of their play.

  • Public Library - While I guess this isn't technically a store, it is a great indoor place to let little ones play. In addition to age appropriate books, they have an area designated for young play with a few games and lots of puzzles available. Also, if you request it from the help desk, they will provide your child with coloring pages and crayons or markers.
Medical Care
If you need medical attention, but do not want the expense and hassle of the emergency room you can go to Auburn Urgent Care (map) There is no appointment necessary, they have a clean facility with friendly staff, and are usually fairly quick to see you (in doctor timing). You can also go for non-emergency care such as ear infections, bad cold, etc. There are obviously some cases where you would still need to go to the emergency room at the hospital, but for lesser emergencies I would try Urgent Care first.
