Play Dough

Child playing with Play Dough

Basic Homemade Playdough Recipe
This first recipe is your basic home-made playdough recipe. Cooking is required, and cool-down time is needed before it is ready to be played with by children.

Step 1:
Play Dough Dog Mix 1 cup flour, 1 cup water, 2 teaspoons cream of tartar, 1 teaspoon oil and 1/4 cup salt in a saucepan. and messy hands.

Step 2:
Stir constantly while heating over medium heat on the stove until playdough pulls away from the pan and clumps together.

Step 3:
Remove playdough from pan. Stir in food coloring. If you want several colors, split into sections and color each section separately.

Step 4:
Knead each section of playdough until smooth, being careful not to burn your hands.

Step 5: Playdough in ziploc bag
Allow to cool & then let the kids play! This playdough can be stored in an air-tight container for months if your kids let it last that long. I typically keep mine in a ziploc bag.

Kool-Aid Play Dough
This batch can only be used to make one color playdough because it is the Kool-Aid® that does the coloring. It also makes it smell wonderful.

Step 1:
Mix 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 3 Tbs oil, Kool-Aid pack.

Step 2:
To this add 1 cup boiling water.

Step 3:
Mix together until it all clumps into ball. Knead until smooth.

Step 4:
Give it to the kids for their playdough enjoyment. Store in air-tight container.
